The covid-19 pandemia has challenged our universities how to give practical training to our students. An alternative has been to develop and use virtual lab programmes. NordBioMed has in our earlier Erasmus+ project – OERCompBioMed (Open educational resources in computational biomedicine) developed virtual courses.
With experiences from this we are now in a new Erasmus+ project – ENVISION_2027 (European Network for Virtual lab & Interactive SImulated ONline learning_2027) that is a 2-year Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project of 6 European universities: Universities of Turku, Kuopio, Leeds, Bergen and Åbo Akademi, and Karolinska Institutet. It is funded under the EU Key Action 226, Partnerships for Digital Education Readiness for years 2021-2023.
Main objectives of the project are (1) to research and suggest how to complement remote teaching of biosciences/biomedicine laboratory and teamwork activities through using state-of-the-art virtual reality tools, and (2) research how to combine learning analytics into the virtual laboratory teaching to obtain personalized learning experience for the student.

NordBioMed network received 2017 funding from Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership programme for our project OERCompBiomed (Open Educational Resources in Computational Biomedicine). The project started September 1, 2017 and will end August 31, 2020. The major goals are to improve education in biomedicine by implementing novel courses in the form of open OERs (virtual courses). We will develop virtual courses that provide needed education and training in different aspects of the rapidly evolving field of biomedicine with focus on computational science and computational biomedicine (bioinformatics, bioimaging). Also, knowledge and tools in bioethics will be covered to help students to identify, analyze and discuss new and challenging bioethical issues connected to the evolving biomedicine field.
